Edrolo Year 7 Maths includes video lessons to accompany the textbook. Here are some quick tips for using these videos to get students engaged and loving Maths - from our community of teachers.

• Get students to watch the video lessons and answer the embedded quiz questions. Ask them to re-answer until they get them correct, before moving to the fluency, problem-solving, and reasoning questions.

• Select video lessons (theory, worked examples, or quiz questions) to show in class and work through together.
  ‍
• Flip learning and get students to watch video lessons before class.
  ‍
• Book a computer room once a fortnight (or students’ own devices), and use the videos to revise.
  ‍
• Set videos as catch-up when students are away, for casual teachers to share, or as part of a lesson if you are away.

Sandy Holden, Year 7 Maths teacher at Mueller College in Queensland, shares what this looks like in her classroom:

‍Each week I assign the chapters to be covered. For example, 2A and 2B. The students must watch the video for the first chapter assigned and answer the quiz questions embedded in the video. They keep re-answering the quiz questions until they get them correct.

Once I can see they have done this they go on to answer the questions for that chapter. They answer the questions online using Edrolo but must write the working out for each question neatly into their exercise book. This has helped identify students who rush through and just click the answers without actually working through the question. Having the students enter their answers into Edrolo helps me identify students who are having trouble with particular questions and enables me to work individually with them on these questions.
